The mission of the Business Diversity Center is to build greater understanding of the impact of diversity and multiculturalism on individual effectiveness and corporate competitiveness. We accomplish this mission through a variety of activities:
- Teaching: The Center has successfully launched the Business Diversity Minor area of study for undergraduate students at Virginia Tech.
- Research: The Center offers support for faculty and graduate students to facilitate the creation of new knowledge in diversity-related areas, and the dissemination of research.
- Events: The Center conducts the Annual Diversity Case Competition and is involved in other diversity-related campus events including speakers and seminars. The Center supports the annual student-led Diversity Workshop.
- Outreach: The Center offers seminars on diversity-related issues to various organizations.
Organizational diversity addresses the real or perceived differences among people that affect their interactions and relationships within and among organizations. Although organizational diversity encompasses many dimensions of difference, much of the research and teaching on this subject focuses on differences that could be based on power or dominance relations between groups, such as race, gender, ethnicity, sex, religion, age, physical and mental ability, sexual orientation, work and family status, and socioeconomic background.
